Gifted Disciplines

How the Gifted perceive the world

Gifted are humans connected to the Knot beneath Pike Creek.

They do not command the Knot.

They perceive it.

Every Gifted experiences the Knot differently. Some notice it in living things. Others in patterns and coincidence. Others in the boundaries that separate one thing from another.

These perspectives are known as Disciplines.

A Discipline is not a profession, belief system, or list of powers. It is simply the lens through which a Gifted most naturally understands the Knot. Two Gifted of the same Discipline may possess entirely different abilities, practices, and beliefs.

All Gifted share a natural affinity for Alchemy, but their Discipline determines which aspect of the Knot they hear most clearly.

Alchemy is the common language of the Gifted.

Anyone can follow a recipe, brew tea, mix salves, carve charms, or burn incense. A Gifted, however, can awaken the subtle supernatural qualities hidden within those practices.

The ingredients matter.

The process matters.

But so does the person performing it.

Most Gifted learn at least a handful of alchemical practices regardless of Discipline.

Life perceives the Knot through living things: growth, decay, illness, recovery, instinct, and emotion.

Gifted of Life are naturally attuned to the rhythms of the body and the natural world. Many become healers, herbalists, farmers, brewers, florists, or caretakers, though the Discipline itself is not tied to any profession.

Common manifestations include:

  • Sensing illness, injury, or emotional distress
  • Accelerating natural healing
  • Influencing plant growth
  • Creating potent remedies, salves, and tinctures
  • Understanding the needs and instincts of living creatures

Life does not create life from nothing, nor does it perform miracles.

It nurtures what already exists.

Fate perceives the Knot through patterns: coincidence, dreams, symbols, connections, and possibility.

Gifted of Fate are drawn toward meaning. They notice details others overlook and often experience the world as a web of interconnected threads rather than isolated events.

Common manifestations include:

  • Prophetic or symbolic dreams
  • Reading omens through cards, bones, weather, or ritual
  • Sensing connections between people, places, and events
  • Finding things that have been lost
  • Recognizing moments of unusual significance

Fate does not reveal absolute truth.

The Knot speaks in symbols, not answers.

Edge perceives the Knot through boundaries: inside and outside, safety and danger, self and other.

Gifted of Edge are naturally attuned to thresholds and intrusion. They sense when something is where it should not be and often feel compelled to resist it.

Common manifestations include:

  • Creating wards and protective rituals
  • Consecrating or safeguarding spaces
  • Resisting supernatural influence
  • Sensing when a boundary has been crossed
  • Intervening between a threat and its target

Edge is not inherently religious.

Many Edge Gifted express their abilities through faith, while others draw upon tradition, duty, family customs, personal conviction, or sheer stubbornness.

The Knot responds not to belief itself, but to the strength behind it.
